[cross-project-issues-dev] Possible removal of Orbit all-in-one zip?

For the Galileo release the Orbit team will be modifying the build to produce p2 repositories. This has brought up discussion surrounding the zip file that we currently produce which contains all of the Orbit bundles in one file.

When Orbit first started it made sense to provide this zip file as a convenience for people who were interested in multiple bundles. Today Orbit has grown in size and we now produce over 240 bundles in each build. Because of this, we question whether or not these large zip files (about 100MB) are still useful.

So the question is, do people still download the orbit zip file or do they access the bundles individually via HTTP (or through a map file entry, etc).

Based on query results [1] it looks like this file is no longer used but we wanted to confirm before removing it in future builds.

If you have objections to the removal of this zip file, please comment in bug 266232. [2]

Thanks.

[1] Using the Eclipse Portal (http://portal.eclipse.org) you are able to query the download stats for any given file. These are the results of a query for "orbit-*.zip". Looks like nothing has been downloaded since 2007.

Your query results:

Filename: /tools/orbit/committers/drops/%/orbit-%.zip
Date from:
Date to:

            14:  /tools/orbit/committers/drops/I200711280603/orbit-I200711280603.zip
             2:  /tools/orbit/committers/drops/I200712030824/orbit-I200712030824.zip
