Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Proposal for a Callisto RC4a
|
David,
Ok -- that's fine. The previous version works with RC7 too. A couple of bug
fixes in the later one, which can wait for the next synch point.

Thanks John ... but .... RC4a is already "done" (replicated, etc.) ...
deadline was Wednesday ... will be announced soon today ...
... unless you tell me that DTP does not work with RC7 base.
The main idea behind the RC4a was to get some new "update site
optimizations" out there in early "public use" a week or so
earlier than it would otherwise have been (leaving p l e n t y of time to
fix problems found with the new
optimization :) I think the RC5 plan is still fine for all others to use
as their "final" (near final?) updates.
So, let me know (quick!) if you disagree.
Thanks again.

I don't know if we've decided to do RC4a or not, but I've updated the
features-dtp.xml for a DTP build tested with the RC7 platform build.

We discussed before ... and said "if reason found" we'd re-consider ... and
I think there is now reason to promote an RC4a, which is just like RC4,
except the base platform would
be moved up to its RC7 level. The main reason, for me, is to pick up the
update manager improvements described in bug 144876 (
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=144876 ).
Technically speaking, we would not even *have* to re-issue Callisto, if
users simply started with the Eclipse SDK RC7, but 1) I would not want to
publically encourage this, since
none of the other Callisto projects have had a chance to test, or voice
dissent with that plan, and 2) would prefer an orderly official "rollout"
to practice good process.
So .. any objections to us providing an RC4a? As detailed below? I think
only expectation on projects would be to do some sanity checking to make
sure RC7 didn't accidentally introduce some
breaking change ... if it did, of course, we'd really want to know that
anyway! ... so, this note is just to give some "fair warning" that this is
the plan, and see if anyone objects.
If I hear no objections, I'll assume silence is consent, and prepare this
RC4a version. Thanks.
RC4a (9 -Jun)
