[corona-dev] EclipseWorld Feedaback

At EclipseWorld 2006, I hosted the session “Eclipse Workgroup Collaboration”.  This 90 minute session was attended by approximately 25 people.  The session focused on the use of Eclipse projects Corona and ECF to build collaboration solutions.

The session included a 60 minute presentation as well as a 30 minute demonstration.  The audience seemed to be very interested in this collaboration topic.  There were many questions, especially during the demo.

The session’s presentation will be posted to Corona’s website within the coming week.  The demo that was given is not available for download (yet!).

We had a follow-up demo with Mike Milinkovich, Eclipse Foundation Executive Director.  Initially Mike did not have a clear understanding of what Corona was.  However, after the demo he was more aware of the project’s scope and direction.

Mike had some very good suggestions for the Corona team.

  • Provide the demo as a download as soon as possible.  Do not worry about the initial out-of-box experience.  The intended audience is the Eclipse community, which is very technical.  Post instructions on how to use the demo on your wiki.
    • Working code is key to building community awareness.
  • Post emails to other Eclipse project development mailing lists inviting them to try the demo and provide feedback.
  • Continue to use the Eclipse collaboration forums (newsgroups, mailing lists, wiki, bugzilla) to manage the Corona project.
  • When needed, setup a virtual Corona server with the Eclipse Foundation.  Use this as the Corona server to host ProjectContextContainer(s).
  • Be more active in promoting the Corona community.  Cross post to other project’s development mailing lists.  Create blogs.  Post to JobbyLobby and The Server Side.
  • Continue to strengthen relationships with the other collaboration projects (ALF, ECF, and Mylar).  Also look into possible synergies with Buckminster.
    • Schedule meetings and invite other projects to attend
    • Publish meeting minutes to each project’s dev mailing list

Overall the feedback Corona received from Mike as well as conference attendees was very positive and encouraging.
