Re: [cdt-dev] Windows XP support

I'm suggesting that we close Windows XP-only bug because we don't expect anyone to put the effort in contributing to fixing it at this point. It's not a statement about whether or not it works well, just a measure of commitment on Bugzilla. For Mac, there are still patches coming but it's the same idea: if someone reports a bug for OSX Tiger (10.4) and it only affects this version I will ask if they want to provide a fix, otherwise I will mark it as wontfix because I know that the community is very unlikely to fix it at this point and I will personally not look into it.

So maybe instead of calling it "not supported anymore" I should have said "not expected to get any attention anymore". Makes sense?

If we have an urgent need to clean up our bug list, sure. We support what contributors want to support. If someone comes along, they can reopen the bugs I guess.

FWIW, I’m not sure we ever declared that we did support it ;). Same with Mac which is actually questionable at this point, at least until M-A gets lldb-mi working.

:D, it’s Friday.

+1

I think this is a fair way forward.

If MS does not support XP, it's hard to blame us for not supporting it:

Hi,

We've come across a bug that happens only on Windows XP. It made me wonder if we should more officially declare that some environments are not supported anymore. What that would mean is that we would closed/wontfix some of those bugs and if someone wants to step up and fix the issue, we could reopen it.

So, is there any objection to considering Windows XP as "not supported" anymore?

Is there any objection to mark bugs closed/wontfix for platforms considered unsupported unless someone steps up?

Regards,

Marc-Andre
