Re: [cdt-dev] [eclipse-dev] Requirement to update the copyright end year has been dropped

Thanks for bringing this up Doug!
I was supposed to run the copyright date tool to fix all those automatically,
but the tool is very slow, and would cause a giant patch to go in quite late.
It is much nicer not to have to worry about it.

One thing to clarify: we must still put dates in the copyright header,
however, the end date is not needed, or needs not be updated.

I can confirm that this is the policy. We do not have to update the copyrights with the modified date. Which is good because mine are all missing that ;).

I imagine this would also be true for all projects. I'll poke and see if that's true.

Friends of the Eclipse platform,

Today the PMC decided that it is not mandatory that to update the
copyright header anymore to the Eclipse Top Level project. You still
can do it, if you prefer to do it.

See for details. has been
updated by me, feel free to improve it or other contribution guides of
the Eclipse project.

IMHO these are great news to get rid of this time wasting requirement
for committers and contributors. This should reduce further the level
of frustration during code contributions to platform UI.

Also the existing committers which are already ignoring this
requirement, can finally do it officially. ;-)

Best regards, Lars
