Other than plugins depending on Java 7, does this

I was just talking about the website requirement message for now.
I ask this because currently, if you install or run
eclipse under a certain execution environment (say, 6) and
there are installed plugins which require a higher execution
environment (say, 7), the plugins will fail to load but
there will be no user message, nor even a log message about
this!
See: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=417336
It can be quite confusing for a user who inadvertently updates
to a newer version of CDT (or other plugins) but is still
running a Java 6 VM.
So, would changing -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion to 7 would help with
this problem? Maybe it's possible to change eclipse.ini with an
update to the package?
In any case, I think that since the lack of error message is an
issue in the platform, I don't think it should prevent us from
making the change. With the message on the main download website, a
message on the CDT download page and another one in the new and
noteworthy, hopefully most people will know to upgrade.
