I agree with you that it probably shouldn't be the default. That's why I
figured a project specific preference would be the best way to go.
Raised it as a enhancement request against CDT-UI:

Only if you raise a bug. ;)
BTW, My vote is to not make this the default. I hate editors mucking
with my files. Some compilers deal with no new line at the end just fine
(gcc just raises a warning).

Some of the developers in our team have expressed that they would like
to see the "Ensure newline at end of file when saving" preference on by
default:

I know this is probably not going to make it into 5.0 as it's so close
but would it be possible to also make this a project specific
preference?
