fVariables is a variable cache. If it is null, the
debugger tries to get variables from gdb. The CStackFrame class has
'getVariables' method. This method is called by the viewer to get
variables. You can set a breakpoint in this method and see what is going
on.

When refresh is called on the StructuredViewer the first time,
the element object passed as an argument is null, the subsequent calls pass a
CStackFrame. Looking at the CStackFrame shows that fVariables is empty -
should I expect to see my stack variables here?

  Well, everything looks
good. The only way is to debug the code. You can start the session. When
program is suspended, close the Variables View, set a breakpoint in the
    'refresh' method of
    'org.eclipse.debug.internal.ui.views.variables.VariablesViewer' and open the

The thread is suspended, and the
stack frame is selected in the Debug view. Here is the
    screenshot:

Seems to work fine. The content of the

I'm not familiar with the MI, but here is a section of the

The CDT doesn't use the binary parser to display

    for details.

The log file contains no errors. Is the
binary parser used for displaying variables? This is something I don't
    have working yet.

The Variables view in the debugger perspective is not
working for me. I can cursor over a simple int variable and get it's
value in a tool-tip, but it doesn't display in the Variables window -
the Variables window is blank. Any ideas on how to track this
down (breakpoints I could set) would be
    appreciated.
