I can't speak for Solaris but the debugger I use on PalmOS is gdb 5.3.
AFAIR 5.2.1 is a minimum requirement. This is because 5.2.1 was the
first release with an acceptable MI (machine interface - an alternative
command interpreter suitable for use in automated systems such as
Eclipse).
