Re: [bpmn2-modeler-dev] Eclipse BPMN-Modeler - new Wiki Page: HowToStartContributing

Hey Ralph -
Thanks for putting this together.  Some syntactic observations:

This works for me.

"But" is a conjunction and shouldn't start a sentence.  I'd just remove it:

You might want to explain the flavor of Eclipse Neon and any plugins you needed to included prior to setting up your development environment.  Also provide any discussion on setting up a local target platform for development purposes.

Perhaps under 3) in Commit your changes you could indicate that you can "submit your changes" instead of commit them.

Looks great though - I like screen captures - helps a lot.

The SSH url is for everybody. It goes through Gerrit; everybody can push to Gerrit for review (only committers can actually complete the review and accept the contribution).

It's up to the project team to determine where to set the bar for becoming a committer. Minimally, though, the PMC will require that committers have some record of contribution before they are invited to join.

I've had numerous communications with Luis over the years and have explained this several times. The way to become a committer is to make actual contributions to a project to establish that you understand both the project code and the development process. After you've demonstrated that understanding, you may be invited to join by any project committer.

Committer elections must include a merit statement that outlines what the nominee has already done for the project (with actual pointers to bugs, Git refs, etc.).

Hi Paul,

I have started a new wiki page with information about how to contribute to the BPMN2 Project:

https://wiki.eclipse.org/BPMN2-Modeler/DeveloperTutorials/HowToStartContributing

Can you please take a look at it (my English is not so perfect)

What I am not sure about is the information of the repositories URLs. The git and http protocols are clear to me but I am not sure if the ssh is correct? Bob gave me the following ssh URL in the past:

ssh://[USERID]@git.eclipse.org:29418/bpmn2-modeler/org.eclipse.bpmn2-modeler.git

I am not sure if the URL was only for committers? What is the difference to port 22 ?

Can you please verify if the section 'Commit Your Changes' is correct.

And finally: should we add a section about "how to become a committer?" I think Luis Costa has asked for that a few days ago - and I think we can really need any kind of help....

Thanks for you help.

Best regards
Ralph
