All,
Using plan gives a total of 115
bugs. The question becomes which of these the BIRT team is going to take
on, and which they feel could be appropriate for someone to take on as a
contribution.
So as an example under plan is
an item to take on the Remainder function. Seems like it should be
relatively straight-forward. And it would make a good showcase. Do
you add this by creating an Aggregate extension, or do you add the aggregate to
the core code? If you create a new aggregate extension, how do you add
that extension to the project tree. How do you add it to the tests?
Many of the other plan functions
e.g. Make engine content architecture extensible are probably beyond the scope of a simple HelpWanted type
contribution.
That is why I am asking if the
dev team can figure out a way that they would like to have these addressed and
then we can see if people will make contributions.

I remember we put a helpwanted section on the project plan, but now
with the new auto-gen project plan from XML, I do not see it any more.
To find them directly from bugzilla, the key word to used is
‘plan’ and ‘help-wanted’.

Subject: [birt-pmc] Help Wanted Keyword
All,
On the call I heard that there were a large number of help
wanted issues available and I soft committed to having someone take a look at
working on some of them and then documenting about the process.
When I search bugzilla using this
search I find six bugs that are tagged with help wanted. Two have
been fixed all ready, three are for new chart types, and one is for Provide tree-based controls with ability to expand/collapse data
in a report which is probably beyond the scope of a typical help
wanted bug.
First, am I doing the search wrong? I am just
looking for anything with the key word helpwanted.
Second, I know that Jason has a working solution for one of
the chart type
bugs. Perhaps that would make a good candidate to document how to
work on a help wanted bug?
Thanks,
Scott
