Re: [birt-pmc] Draft BIRT 2.3 SR1 Development Plan
|
Here are my comments on the plan. I
also notified my internal "BIRT Interest" list and will forward
any comments sent to me.
As this is a bug fix release, why are
we not supporting downward compatibility with V2.3? It seems to me
that anything built for V2.3 SR1 should work with 2.3 to facilitate field
upgrades. The plan specifically says that "binary plugins for
2.3 SR1 will not be usable with 2.3"., and there are no guarantees
for APIs and source code. If a bug fix requires introducing API or
plugin incompatibility, then maybe that fix should be held until V2.5.
It needs to be easy for people to migrate to this version and maintain
a mixed version environment.
Windows 2000 is listed for the framework
but not the runtime. Is this correct, and do we still need to support
it at all?
The IBM Java SDK is listed for the runtime
but not the framework. Shouldn't the framework be supported on IBM
SDK 5.0?

We have posted the draft BIRT 2.3 SR 1 plan
on the BIRT Wiki for review and feedback. Check it out at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/BIRT_Project_Plan_for_Release_2.3.1.
We can discuss at the next PMC call.
