Thanks for the
email. Yes, Orbit as an approach for easily sharing common
resources across multiple projects would be the
way to go. However, it is best used
when a given resource is needed by multiple projects. Since iText is only used
by BIRT right now, it's not worth the overhead of using Orbit until there is
cross-project demand for iText. This would
certainly be something to consider for the future as demand for iText
develops.

Just to make sure I
have the picture: 2.2.1 is about bugs and Vista, that’s pretty much it.
One thing that has been
discussed is moving the iText project over to Orbit. Orbit is a repository of
third party libraries that are approved for use in Eclipse. Now that iText
has cleared the IP review process, it seems like the better home for it would be
Orbit.
