I feel and believe that the reboot should be made visually clear, because it's not just about making BIRT compatible with the current release of the Eclipse IDE that interests software developers, it's also about reaching the many thousands of end-users which don’t understand anything about technical issues, but understand that a new design means that the product’s lifecycle is continuing. Especially to these last ones - and among them are the decision makers who decide whether to use BIRT or not - a "figurative" take-off is much more appealing than a "keep it up".
I plead for a new completely designed website that carries this message including a new logo design that also symbolizes this. The fine tuning we can then put on the new design...
Best

The point of the reboot is to open the project again to the community as a whole and not repeat past mistakes. Let's keep Christophe's logo as a candidate, but also engage EMO and open up to the community at large.

I want to stress that these comments are purely personal, not a pronouncement by the Executive Director.
- The Eclipse Foundation regularly helps projects create and select a logo by working with professional graphics designers. Please contact EMO@ if you are interested in this assistance.
- It has been our experience that engaging the community as a whole in selecting a logo is valuable in and of itself.
Based on the above, you may wish to step back and focus on the project's community process for creating and selecting a new project logo, rather than debating the merits of any specific design at this point.
Please feel free to completely ignore me :)

With "wobbly" I meant that the text does not fit in the logo box. Some letters are higher than others.
Thanks für the feedback, that helps… J
1.) The font I used is as it is (wobbly etc.). I was looking for a font with rounded ends. I will choose another one. If you have any suggestion it is welcome.
2.) The lower “I” and the “I” in red shall make clear that BIRT is not only a reporting, but also a BI tool. Most people I know associate BIRT with an old fashioned reporting tool for lists… The Bi and the RT should be read each for themselves and both together. In question of trade mark it must be distinguished from other words like “bird” or other marks. There is no word written like “BiRT” this should make the mark more “safe”.
3.) The red shall also be a link between the picture and the word part of the logo. The green shall set off the word BIRT from the image, so that both are recognizable by themselves.
4.) I looked at several other project logos and many of them, not even the present logo of BIRT, links to Eclipse. Never the less, I see different possibilities if this is a wish or need, I will make a suggestion.

Business Intelligence Reporting Tool is very specific and contains all the keywords a designer needs. I'm not too worried that designers can't understand what we do.
However, I'd rather keep it in our own hands if possible.
I think it's a good start but it needs some work:
* I like the graphic, it is suited for icons and stuff
* The letters are a bit wobbly (see the box I drew)
* Why is the i lower case and red, why are the other letters green? What is the idea?
* What is the link to Eclipse? Maybe we can use the colors or do something with the logo
