Minutes

BIRT 2.1 Release

BIRT 2.1 was made generally available as part of the Eclipse Callisto Simultaneous Release on June 30, 2006. This is another exciting milestone for the BIRT project, and we expect to see increased adoption through a combination of it's integration with the Callisto release and  the advanced reporting capabilities that are part of BIRT.

For details on BIRT 2.1, refer to the New & Notable document on the BIRT web pages at http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/notable2.1.php.

Note: The packaging for the initial BIRT release on the Update Manager site was missing a file (prototypel.js) that meant the Web Viewer would not work unless this file was manually added -- this has been fixed. As of July 7, Update Manager now has the full set of files. This issue did not affect the downloads from the BIRT download page.

BIRT 2.1.1 Maintenance Release

We have begun planning for a BIRT 2.1.1 maintenance release.

At the last Planning Council call, the projects in Callisto provisionally agreed that they would synchronize for the maintenance release. This was discussed and the BIRT PMC agree that this makes sense for BIRT 2.1.1.

Tentatively the date for the synchronized maintenance release and BIRT 2.1.1 will be September 28, 2006. After a break for the teams, the coordination conference calls will resume and more detailed planning will commence.

BIRT 2.2/3.0 Release

The next BIRT major release will be BIRT 2.2 or 3.0 -- with the final feature set determining the release designation.

Mike Fox raised two items for discussion in the context of the release -- Dynamic Crosstab/Matrix report support, and improving the usability of the UI for non-Java developers. These items and others will be part of the general planning process for the next major release.

From an planning perspective, Wenfeng and Paul took an action item to come up with a planning timeline and get back to the PMC within the next couple of weeks.
