Coincidentally, I *just* posted comments on both of those bugs.

Have a look, and tell me if it makes sense.

Denis, Gabe, or Jacek, do we recall the reason why we don't want to save an empty string? Was it just a space wasting issue?

And, to all audiences, will reverting [Bug 217257] (meaning to be able to save an empty string) cause problems you can think of?
