Topic: "Eclipse Tool Qualification By Need"
Abstract: 
The existing roadmap for the Eclipse tool (http://wiki.eclipse.org/Auto_IWG_WP5) aims at making at 
enriching Eclipse to an integrated model-based development for the highest risk class tools (TQL-1). 
This is of course much work and hard to finance, and nobody is willing to be the one who needs 
tool qualification with this approach ("first mover disadvantage").
"Tool Qualification By Need" is an approach to construct extensible, model-based tool qualification kits that 
can start with qualification of single tool features. For this no integration into Eclipse is required, but just a 
tracing from the implemented function requirements to (validated) test cases that the user can execute.
Currently the Validas qualification model (and the templates) cover ISO 26262, IEC 61508, EN 50128, DO-178C 
and DO-330 (TQL-5). So the user can extend the qualification to more features and higher TQLs if he needs 
them, just by extending the model with new requirements and tests.
For the Eclipse roadmap towards tool qualification this means that instead of waiting for the expensive 
TQL-1 highway to become reality, we can now start to qualify with the cheaper TQL-5 path and extend it by need.
