I've spoken several times on this list about a separate
mailing list for the AsciiDoc language. While the asciidoc-wg
list is for governance and general correspondence about the
Working Group as a whole (proposing and approving projects,
meeting announcements, budgeting, overall vision, etc), this
new list is where the technical discussions about the AsciiDoc
language will be held. This ensures we don't lose important
messages in the noise of a combined list.
What we've been waiting on is for the AsciiDoc Language
project to be approved and created [1]. The project has been
approved and creation is in progress. That brings us to the
issue of the mailing list name.
Eclipse automatically generates a list name by appending
-dev the project handle. That resulted in the list name
asciidoc-dev. If you're listed on the project proposal, you
may have received a notification about being subscribed to
this list. I saw a lot of potential confusion in that name, so
I requested for it to be deleted. So disregard that message.
The problem I have with the name asciidoc-dev is that it
sounds like that's where all development for AsciiDoc will
occur. But what exactly is development for AsciiDoc? That can
be *a lot* of things, ranging from specification to
implementations, and would become a dumping ground for
discussions. The project proposal is focused specifically on
the language itself. Therefore, I think the list should as
well. With that said, I propose one of the two names for this
new list:
* asciidoc-lang
* asciidoc-lang-dev
Either would work, though asciidoc-lang seems more clear
and concise. If you feel strongly about the second option,
asciidoc-lang-dev, or another alternative, please reply with
an argument for choosing it. If no arguments are presented,
we'll proceed with naming the list asciidoc-lang.
Best Regards,
-Dan
