Borland is looking for a buyer for its IDE products. One theory is that
it is all due to the
persistence of Microsoft which has split the development world into
Windows and everything else.
MS does not want competition in its IDE space and has done everything to
eliminate the one real
threat, Delphi. MS bribed the Delphi creater and team to join them. The
result has been C#, the
principal competition to Java.
Delphi is recognized as the only real RAD IDE in the market. It is
compiled, not interpreted. It is
fast and manageable which is why small development groups have turned to
it. It is particularly
suited for developing rich client and client server applications which
Java fails miserably at. There
is no equivalent to it in the non Windows world. Kylix, Delphi for Linux
and argueably a Windows
killer, was itself killed off several years ago. Kylix could be
resurrected to fill the gap for deeply
functional rich client and client server applications for Linux.
The Eclipse organization should consider raising the necessary funds or
encouraging a receptive
company to take up Borland's offer and level the playing field. Take it
from a developer who has
tried them all and still comes back to Delphi time and time again.
