I can't seem to figure out which "background" color changes the package explorer.

And perhaps also the console/search/problems/javadoc/declaration window, or pane, or view, or whatever it's called.

No, synchronized method declarations will not get you out of this newbie multithreading pitfall:
thing.set(thing.get() + 1);
