CVS: annoying files out of sync bug [message #270368] Tue, 07 September 2004 04:57 Go to next message

It's happened several times already. After modifying and saving a file
(Word document) using an external editor, the package list does not
refresh the package list. Then when I try to do CVS update, the
modified file never gets the dirty flag... problem is, need to perform
refresh first. It took me a while to figure this out. Maybe the
package explorer needs to be able to refresh automatically when
modification occurs with external editor (impossible?), or at least
when the CVS update is run, the package explorer should perform a
"Refresh" first.

Same is true for most other operations like Export. All of these
commands should refresh the package explorer, rather than having this
obscure error messages.

You can set Eclipse to refresh automatically:
Window > Preferences > Workbench - Refresh workspace automatically

Great! How does it determine when to refresh though?

Thanks,
Eric

Magic ... (just kidding;-)

Googled for "eclipse auto refresh workspace". First hit is
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=36962 which has a reference to
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/plat form-core-home/documents/auto_refresh.html
