Hello.
I have Eclipse Ganymede installed, and I'd like to upgrade to Galileo;
however I installed extension in Ganymede (like Jigloo, Pydev, ...)
Can I upgrade from one to the other without having to reinstall the
extensions too?

Hmm, Eric, I'm not sure about that. In the past, the Eclipse update
mechanism has only allowed updating service versions (e.g., 3.4.0 to 3.4.1),
not minor versions (3.4 to 3.5). That's in part because there are so many
plug-ins that use non-API methods and are thus not compatible with the
upgraded Eclipse, and in part because the update mechanism itself has had
significant changes. Is that going to be different in Galileo?
My own guess is that Fabrice will need to download a fresh install of
Galileo and then re-install the third-party plug-ins, making sure to get the
appropriate version of the plug-ins.

One of the motivations behind creating p2 was to be able to support
updating across releases (3.4.x -> 3.5). I've read in various places
(bug reports, wiki pages, newsgroups) that the goal was achieved. It's
probably discussed somewhere here
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Category:Equinox_p2 but I don't know where, exactly.

Well, color me pleasantly surprised! Thanks for the clarification.
