Hello,
I'm referring to
http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/article.php?id=3671&gr oup=eclipse.tools.pdt#3671
and because no one has answered, I'll ask if there's already a bug report
for the following.
Syntax coloring can be set per file type, that is Java, PHP, JavaScript,
HTML, CSS, XML.
There are two issues, one minor and one major:
1. Minor: The syntax coloring preview window shows inconsistent/wrong
previews. The Java and JavaScript file types show the current background
color, XML, HTML, and CSS show some white which wasn't (necessarily) set
by the user.
2. Major: Syntax coloring is set per file type, but why aren't the colors
settable per file type, too? I use a dark background scheme for Java and
bright for most others (like PHP). There are too many color collisions.
Read the post linked above for the motivation. It's just completely
illogical to have syntax coloring per file type and background colors,
selection highlights, etc. as in "Window" -> "Preferences..." -> "General"
-> "Editors" -> "Text Editors" globally. Note that this enhancement would
affect all colors listed there.
Is there such a request for enhancement already? Is this the correct group?
I wonder why no one ever realized this problem. It really affects almost
everybody.

That's a bug that has been reported already,
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=195135 .
