In Eclipse 3.3.2, I have the Aptana plugin installed. I discovered that
when I open an HTML file for the first time, it still opens in the default
(non-Aptana) HTML editor. If I close the editor for that file, then
right-click it in the project view and select "Open With" the Aptana HTML
Editor, then from then on that file will open with that editor. However,
I'd really like to make that the default for all ".htm" and ".html" files.
I looked in "File Associations", and I don't see what I have to do in
there to make this happen.

David,
When you're in the File Associations preference page with *.htm or *.html
selected in the 'File types:' list, do you see the Aptana editor listed
below in the 'Associated editors:' list?

Yes, I do, along with several others. The list contains:

* Web Browser
* Web Page Editor
* Aptana HTML Editor (locked by 'HTML Source File' content type)
* HTML Editor (locked by 'HTML' content type)
* Untitled Text Editor (locked by 'HTML' content type)(locked by 'HTML
Source File' content type)
* Text Editor (locked by 'HTML' content type)(locked by 'HTML Source File'
content type)

When I open files without changing the default, it opens it with "HTML
Editor". I would remove that from the list above, but the "Remove" button
is insensitive. I tried doing this for the "Web Page Editor", where the
"Remove" button was sensitive. This didn't have any effect (no surprise).

Oh, duh. I figured it out. I finally realized what the "Default" button
does.
