No, it is not hard-coded. This notion is named a dialect [1] & [2].
The extension point uses to define a new Dialect is
org.eclipse.sirius.dialect.
As starting point, you can have a look at:
* AbstractRepresentationDialectServices [3]
* or TreeDialect [4] as example, that probably is the simplest Dialect
