A colleague helped me three years ago to install Eclipse and I worked with it for some time on my previous laptop. Yesterday I wanted to install Eclipse CDT on my current laptop (Dell, Windows XP). I have spent several hours and, I still get error messages about "Error launching external scanner info generator ... etc." I separately installed MinGW, I changed my environment variables to contain the path to C:\MinGW\bin. Still no luck.
I went online several times in the process, and found that people have been posting this same problem over and over again. I find all kinds of hints and things to do, but so far, not The Answer, and also not the one thing that would make life easy: one file that can be downloaded, unzipped, installed and then creates the "Hello World" application without any additional effort.
Dear Eclipse community, I think you are working on some great tools. But If it takes so much time to start up, you will loose potential users before they ever get started with coding up something. And if you want to appeal to new users, it should really be easier to get started.
A frustrated but still hopeful rookie user.
