So I am doing a project on the architecture of the Eclipse Platform and I have been browsing the entire source code repository for the complete Eclipse SDK on GIT. I was wondering what would be the best way of downloading just the source code for the platform itself so I can look it over in an IDE which would much save me a lot of time and effort.

The ahem 'hardcore' approach is to clone the repo. If you don't know
what that means, you could try the Oomph installer, I it offers a simple
way to setup an IDE with platform code in the workspace.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_Oomph_Installer

Just select Eclipse Platform SDK , and press Install.

Maybe that's enough/just right for you.
