I had exactly the same problem and couldn't figure it out. I intend to
get back to it sometime soon, but I went off to try the tutorials in
Geary & Horstmann (Core JavaServer Faces) and Mann (JavaServer Faces in
Action). I had some trouble with both, but ultimately succeeded in
completing them although I had to go to NetBeans to do it. I now know
what my problem was in trying to use Eclipse, but as I haven't gone back
to do this tutorial, I don't remember whether that would have solved the
problem or not. As I say, I plan to get back to it, but mostly so that I
can conquer it.
A week ago, however, I discovered an on-line tutorial on JSF, the first
two chapters of which are free:
http://www.agileskills2.org/EssentialJSF/
The first two easily cover more ground than the tutorial you're trying
to follow. I have gone through the first 3-1/2 chapters in this book now
and have not found anything that didn't work. So, I would recommend it.
This book is very light on theory, but very detailed on practice and, as
I say, EVERYTHING works as advertised whereas your tutorial and those in
the two books I said suffer from having either gone out of date with
respect to Eclipse, weren't done in Eclipse or had bugs of their own.
If you're interested in some random and disorganized notes on JSF, in
particular, discussing the first two books' chapter 1 tutorials, see my
own ramblings at http://www.windofkeltia.com/j2ee/nb-jsf-tutorial.html.
Best of luck and don't hesitate to ask me specific questions. I'll do
what I can.
