rowTemplates and horizontal cells [message #1209324] |

With the advent of rowTemplates meaning that a logical 'row' of a Table is now presented in a layed-out cell, would it also be possible to consider having sideways scrolling Tables so the 'rows' are actually layed out horizontally... or even as a configurable 'grid', say 3 cells tall, and scrolling left/right?
Just a thought, but would be very cool!

Hi.
Possible yes, but would very much depend on how strong the demand for
this would be, and how much time we have on our hands, since this sounds
like a lot of work.
Greetings,
Tim

Sideways scrolling tables are pretty common on devices... I just have to look at our BBC News app to see how these can be used to good effect.
Maybe there is another way, or another type of control that would be better suited?

Hi.
Yeah.
You can easily do this with a ScrolledComposite and RowLayouts in RAP,
perhaps nicely wrapped as a custom widget. Even if you want
out-of-the-box virtual rendering/lazy-loading and a J-Face-like viewer
API, the Table API and implementation would not be a good match.
So, a widget like that would be thinkable, but it would likely not be
based on Table, and I don't see us doing it unless there is crazy high
demand or someone sponsors it.
Greetings
Tim
