Hey, I hate to ask this -- but is there a clear direction yet from Sun
re: Eclipse? I note that Sun is still pimping the netBeans IDE (in the
form of the "Sun ONE Studio IDE").

So far I've found Eclipse to be better at text-ish things, but netBeans
*does* have the Swing GUI builder...

On a related note, how about an "eclipse.pointless_rant" newsgroup? <grin>

Eclipse *does* have Swing and SWT GUI builders :)
See http://www.swt-designer.com (SWT) and http://www.eclipse.org/vep/
(Swing).

swt-designer is comercial, but VE is slow on Linux - netbeans is superior
for GUI i WEB development, but eclipse have refactoring (netbeans anounce
refactoring for Mart, 2004, but eclipse is superior)

I think this is not the forum to debate about netBeans and Eclipse
functionality.
This newsgroup is dedicated to use Eclipse as a platform for other
applications.
I would accept a debate on what's better to create an application using
either netBeans or Eclipse as a framework.
My comments on that are:
The concept of Nodes in netBeans are really helpful. I find it missing
in Eclipse.
Creating a new tree-like View in Eclipse is easy -faster for a
Eclipse-newbie than for a Netbeans newbie- but, the advantage of Eclipse
ends there. You end up creating the concept of Nodes in Eclipse to make the
code more generic. I even have had the intention to use the netBeans API as
a plugin to Eclipse... Some of the netBeans libraries are useful even in not
netBeans applications: filesystems and nodes are a good example.
