NOw that I have got eclipse running for multi users, I want to configure
it to work with C++.
I have tried to install CDT from Help->Software Updates>Find and Install
and adding the url
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/eclipse3.1 but this just
crashes out reporting 'An internal error occurred during: "Update
Manager".'
Another window reports that there were 'No features found on the selecetd
site(s). Choose a different site or category.'
I obtained the site location from the CDT project download page.
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or a location where I can
obtain CDT?
Regards
Jimmy

In an earlier posting, you first said "I have installed
eclipse-SDK-3.2-linux-gtk.tar.gz...". Then, after Markus pointed out
that your error messages were coming from "eclipse platform 3.1.2", you
said "I am definitely running 3.1.2." (Just context for anyone stumbling
on this that doesn't associate it with the prior thread.)
I think I see two possible paths you can take... you can repost this
(with more information about versions and the like from your earlier
post) over on eclipse.tools.cdt (I don't see many CDT folk here in
eclipse.newcomer) and hope they can help you with that release, or...
you can go to Eclipse 3.2 for real, then use the Find and Install =>
Search for new features to install => Callisto Discovery Site and get
the CDT 3.1 and all pre-reqs... that's the more reliable approach these
days, as CDT 3.1 (works with Eclipse 3.2) is the platform of choice at
the moment.
Looking at the download page above, I don't see why what you were having
problems... the site.xml file at that location looks to still be good.
But it is one release behind the current, so who knows what may have
atrophied in the meantime. I definitely find the new Callisto "single
discovery site preconfigured" a better way to go personally.

Problem solved.
I upgraded Eclipse to 3.2 and installed CDT as described by the previous
poster.
I did though, surprisingly, have to DOWNGRADE JDK to version 5 update 6
instead of update 7! Update 7 was OK with eclipe 3.1.2 but would not allow
3.2 to run.
