4.2.1 download zip invalid? [message #994560] Thu, 27 December 2012 17:21 Go to next message

Tried getting 4.2.1 from several mirrors at:

http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/eclipse/downloads/drops4/R-4.2.1-201209141800/eclipse-SDK-4.2.1-win32-x86_64.zip

All downloaded zip archives were corrupted. Anyone run into this/know of a solution/workaround?

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else. If so, search didn't discover it.

There are known issues for some zips on Windows. You might read the
following "known issues" wiki and see if its suggestions help.

I appreciate the link, but I still wonder what my issue is. I never had this issue until relatively recently - within the past year: never had a problem downloading the files, never had a problem extracting the files regardless of the path, didn't matter what machine I was using.

This continues to stymie me. I attempted to download the 32-bit 4.2.1 and got the same thing. Did it from multiple mirrors using HTTP and FTP protocols. All downloaded fine, but the zip files are unusable. There was what I would call a "weird pause" at the end of the downloads, but that could just be the antivirus doing its thing.

I believe the archives are actually corrupt, and what I'm running into isn't a Windows issue; see below: the file sizes and hashes are different than what was advertised. On the HTTP download for instance, the header says "Content-Length: 192049857" (characters?), but Windows says the file I downloaded is 192036864 (bytes). Also, to take the MD5: the download page specifies an MD5 hash of "c209a90abf437ae03ac1cb24af1ea5f3", but the MD5 of the file I downloaded is "cc36ecf1a65694ee669016393b797eff". Why would that be different unless either:

  1. the MD5 on the site doesn't jive with the file that's being served,
  2. the wrong file is being served, or
  3. my downloads are consistently corrupted between the download mirrors and here?

So now my question is: how am I getting these corrupt files? Are they being served this way? Maybe a proxy is dealing the wrong file? I don't recall having this issue with any other ZIP file on any other site.

Here are a bunch of details about my failed download attempts today. Documenting them in the hope that a key bit of information is lurking in the data. (Note: had to obfuscate the HTTP header URL due to Junior Member status.]

Does anyone have an answer for the mismatched MD5 and SHA1?

My md5 and sha1 do not match the md5 and sha1 listed at the download site for the Java EE IDE 64 bit download:

eclipse-jee-juno-SR2-win32-x86_64.zip

Download Site:

MD5: 8b3d31ee8acbe5d03c3d129583694c50 eclipse-jee-juno-SR2-win32-x86_64.zip
SHA1: 009e458ad1301529fda1a44a36fa5e165c98d182 eclipse-jee-juno-SR2-win32-x86_64.zip

After Download:

MD5: df0f5c0880ca2156f3c99618a9f52511 eclipse-jee-juno-SR2-win32-x86_64.zip
SHA1: a8f3f3a8211db50be02b62eae6af696932c7607c eclipse-jee-juno-SR2-win32-x86_64.zip

I have tried multiple mirrors and none have worked with matching MD5/SHA1.
