I appreciate the link, but I still wonder what my issue is. I never had this issue until relatively recently - within the past year: never had a problem downloading the files, never had a problem extracting the files regardless of the path, didn't matter what machine I was using.
This continues to stymie me. I attempted to download the 32-bit 4.2.1 and got the same thing. Did it from multiple mirrors using HTTP and FTP protocols. All downloaded fine, but the zip files are unusable. There was what I would call a "weird pause" at the end of the downloads, but that could just be the antivirus doing its thing.
I believe the archives are actually corrupt, and what I'm running into isn't a Windows issue; see below: the file sizes and hashes are different than what was advertised. On the HTTP download for instance, the header says "Content-Length: 192049857" (characters?), but Windows says the file I downloaded is 192036864 (bytes). Also, to take the MD5: the download page specifies an MD5 hash of "c209a90abf437ae03ac1cb24af1ea5f3", but the MD5 of the file I downloaded is "cc36ecf1a65694ee669016393b797eff". Why would that be different unless either:
- the MD5 on the site doesn't jive with the file that's being served,
- the wrong file is being served, or
- my downloads are consistently corrupted between the download mirrors and here?
So now my question is: how am I getting these corrupt files? Are they being served this way? Maybe a proxy is dealing the wrong file? I don't recall having this issue with any other ZIP file on any other site.
Here are a bunch of details about my failed download attempts today. Documenting them in the hope that a key bit of information is lurking in the data. (Note: had to obfuscate the HTTP header URL due to Junior Member status.]
