Native dialogs: dead ends for GUI testing? [message #131311] Fri, 13 June 2008 16:04 Go to next message

I know that there are limitations of Automated GUI Recorder to automate
native dialogs.

We don't use AGR anyway. But we need to automate native dialogs too.

It is a future goal of the TPTP project to deal with native dialogs when
automating GUI tests. So I think someone must have a solution in mind for
this problem.

I am asking because I don't know any other solution than using tools like
AutoIt for this. But the mentioned tool of course would only work for
Windows.

So how can this be solved? I can implement the solution, but I am lacking
of an idea. Maybe there is even already a tool for it?

Hi,

The AGR is a tool that is used by the test project for our own testing of
TPTP, so we continue to provide it to our users "as-is". New features for
AGR, such as support for native dialogs are listed as future due to the
fact that there is no current funding available to implement the feature.
Thus, at this time, there is no plan date for this feature.

We do encourage and welcome contributions to the AGR or other areas of
TPTP.

Short of a contribution for this feature, you will need to find and
evaluate other GUI functional test tools that are available to support
native dialogs.

I thought you maybe had an idea how to solve it, so that I can implement
that by myself. Currently I have not better idea than to use for each
platform another tool to control on the native dialogs.

Hi,

Your reply about sums it up, I don't know of a quick and easy way to get
native dialog support. If somebody knows an easy way out, that would be
great. Sorry.
