A stubborn Cut + Paste problem [message #118375] Wed, 11 April 2007 16:20 Go to next message

Hello pals,
I have a simple little test model with one type of node whose
semantic element has one attribute.
After I cut and paste in the generated editor the new part is
in a wrong state. The symptoms:
1) Its figure is marked with a X inside a O in the upper-right corner :-)
2) The label of the new part is empty ( [] ) and is not editable
3) If I change the value of the attribute via the Properties View
the changes are not reflected in the label.
4) If I save the diagram and, the tree editor,
change the value of the attribute there, save and switch back
to the diagram editor - the new value is not reflected.

I tried to debug the state of the diagram but it seems ok,
the diagram edit part holds refs. to the right child edit parts,
which hold ref. to the right view model, which hold ref. to the right
semantic...

I found no info whatsoever about cut / paste problems.
Has anybody faced this before? Can you reproduce it?
Cheers,
Theo

One more thing : the semantic element of the pasted
edit part contains the default value of the attribute
( and this value can not be changed through the label) .
It seems to me that the semantic objects do not at all
get serialized together with the view when the edit part is cut.
The diagram is canonical ...
Is this a bug? haven't altered anything in the
generated editor...

I'm not sure, but maybe you should turn on generation of UUIDs in semantic
model. I had strange problems with Copy&Paste and it helped me.

For more info check EMF documentation or this page:

Hi Seweryn,
I already applied your tip described there, without
the UUIDs Copy & Paste doesn't work at all.
What I'm talking about here is something different.
The funny part is that it is so obvious, many people
should have seen it ...

Hello Theo,

You can try to reproduce this problem in Ecore diagram editor and if it will
be there then you can submitt a request with steps to repeat.

Hi Theo,

I've just found myself involved with the same cut and paste problem, and
as you say the funny thing is that it looks like no one ever saw this ...
bug?? or whatever...

It is kind of weird that I'm being able to cut anything from a diagram
and paste it on another canvas, but when I try to repeat this process on
the same canvas it shows exactly as you describe.

the question is:

did anyone find a solution to this????

Thank you!
