Hi,

we've come a long way to now be able to build/test/deploy/install/update
our JDT-based IDE in a fully p2-compatible way. We don't even have
to maintain a site.xml any more, except, well, I couldn't figure
out how to create feature categories with p2.

Ideally, I'd be looking for specifying in some kind of a map file,
which features (specified with version ranges) should go in which
category. This would have to be written only once, and the meta data
generator would populate the category as we go.

Is something along these lines already possible with p2?
Are there plans to completely fade out the site.xml?
Or would p2 (eventually) in some other way help maintaining site.xml?

thanks,
Stephan

I think it's too early to give a definitive answer to this. You could in
theory manually craft category IUs in a p2 metadata repository, but this
is quite painful without good editing tools. My suggestion would be to
stick with using site.xml for categories until we have come up with a
good replacement.
