As http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/deploy/viewerUsage2.2.php says, Web Viewer uses the AJAX framework to collect parameters. Where should I look at in its source to find out in more detail how it does the job?

You can check out the viewer plugin or just look at the runtime
WebViewerExample. Specifically look at:
webcontent\birt\ajax directory.
