I have Windows XP 32 bit and Java Version 6 update 31 is installed.

I have tried to follow the instruction on the eclipse web-site to install eclipse:

www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~cs5/install/eclipse-win/index.html

When I try to copy to Program Files by drag and drop, I get the error message "The system cannot find the file specified. I have tried downloading the zip file from three different mirror sites all with the same result.

If I try to cut/paste the eclipse folder from the zip to Program Files, I do not get an error, but not all files are copied. I then went into each top level folder in the eclipse folder of the zip file and copy/pasted each folder to the Program Files/eclipse folder.

When I double click the eclipse.exe I get the message that an error has occured and to see the log file (see attached).

I can only guess that eclipse is not finding all the installation files that it needs. If this is the case, is there a more reliable installation method than the one I am attempting to perform?

The web site you referenced is not the Eclipse web site. It is a Dartmouth University web site.

The Eclipse web site download page has an Installation Guide link on the right hand side.

You also might want to look at the eclipse.ini page:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse.ini

I would suggest that you install into a directory other than Program Files.

My advice is not to install Eclipse in Program Files, but on XP there's
nothing wrong with doing that (however, it's very painful doing it that
way on 7).

I would suggest you install it at the root (C:\eclipse), create a
shortcut that you drop into the task bar across the bottom of the desktop.

If you think you're missing something, you might want to use 7zip
instead of WinZip which screws up on longer paths occasionally.

I don't want to jerk you around, but if you want to follow a different
set of instructions, one that will also help you solve potential
eclipse.ini problems (which Dartmouth doesn't mention), as well as
separate JDK and Tomcat installation cues, I can offer this more
