Hi Rap developers

We already use rap to bring our applications to the web, which works very well. Thanks for your effort!

Now we are investigating its capabilities on mobile devices.

Following questions have occured:

1. What are your plans for rap on mobile devices in general? I saw this bug Bug 323623 -[ipad] Improve touch-feedback with it's last comment saying: "With the focus of RAP on mobile devices having changed to native clients, i would close this bug as wontfix. Unless anyone objects i will close it in a few days.". Does it mean you won't support the regular rap project for mobile devices anymore and only focus on the native project?

2. I noticed that scrolling with the scrollbars works fine on ipad/iphone but not on my Android Galaxy Tablet. On the Android tablet I can't move the scrollbar. I tried it with the tableviwer example on http://rap.eclipsesource.com/rapdemo/examples. Do you already know that?

3. Concerning bug Bug 323621 -[ipad] Enable two-finger scrolling on Tree, Table and List: Are there any plans to solve this bug respectively to improve the finger scrolling in general? In my opinion the capability to scroll with one finger is a very important feature.

4. Although two-finger scroll works on iphone (beside tables and trees as you know) it is very hard to use because if I touch a textfield it immediately gets the focus. On native apps and ordinary websites this is not the case. It's also not the case on the Android tablet, where it seems to have a delay of 1 or 2 seconds before setting the focus. In my opinion the focus should only be set when lifting the finger. Would this be possible?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions!

Best wishes
Claudio

We will continue to support mobile devices with the web client, but we
won't try to achieve that "native" user experience anymore. Thats what
RAP mobile [1] is for. In a nutshell, we will fix critical bugs, but not
do any mobile-specific enhancements. Known limitations/quirks (like
missing context menu support, scrolling in android) are not considered
critical. They *might* get fixed at some point, but have a low priority
now, and we have comparatively limited resources.

We are aware, but there is no bugzilla entry for that specifically. It
is something that might get fixed if its easy to do, i.e. the code from
iOs can be used as-is for android.

It might be possible, but we also do not consider it a bug.

If someone contributes a solid patch (meeting all coding standards of
the RAP project) for any of these issues to bugzilla, we would likely
apply it, unless it bloats the code too much.

I hope these answers helps you a bit.

Greetings,
Tim
