One data source for all reports [message #97288] Thu, 08 December 2005 03:09
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi All,

Has anyone figured out a way yet to let BIRT reports use
the same data source across all reports. I am a little
dumb founded to be honest that this is not a bigger issue
among BIRT users, unless I don't know about the solution.
If I want to deploy 20 reports to a hundred clients who
all have different database login credentials how do I
change 2000 reports' data sources? Surely there must be
a way to set up one data source what can be used by all
the reports. I know BIRT has the ODA extension feature,
but I'm not an Java developer (yet) so I cannot quickly
write a plugin to do what I want. I know one can use
scripted data sources, but I don't know how to script
it to do what I want.

Surely someone must have had the same requirement and
solved the problem who is willing to share their knowledge
(and code)!

Furthermore, is there a write-up of the library feature
in version 2. I've created a library and attached it to
a new report, but it seems that only the data sources
and data sets of the library are imported and nothing else.
It also seems as if the report does not update to changes
made to the library after it has been imported into the
report. I'll also be nice to be able to select which part(s)
of the library to import.

Could anyone help me out?

Thanks

Gerhard
