I have reinstalled Eclipse 3.3.0 (in which MAT + DTFJ used to work),
reinstalled MAT + DTFJ, re-checked-out our code, and now MAT + DTFJ is
unable to read any jextracted zip's. A sample error-log is attached. Has
the posted download of DTFJ been changed? Or the MAT?

(I had earlier reported that MAT + DTFJ was no longer able to read old
extracts, see thread "".)

Oops -- I see my problem now: in all the confusion, I was inadvertantly
using the default JVM of the newly-rebuilt OS (i.e., IBM JVM Java 1.6)
to *launch* the Eclipse that included the reinstalled MAT + DTFJ -- but
using the IBM JVM Java 1.5 SR5 for the process launched from the IDE and
for the jextract; once I added "-vm ..." to my shortcut, and re-pointed
myself at the SR8a, MAT + DTFJ *can* run. See new thread "Strange OOM
error when running MAT + DTFJ on *some* jextract'ed zips".

The message in the log:
C:\IBM_Watson\CAEA_Dept\UDAT\Profiling\eclipse\UDAT_ConceptF inder_20081215.220.dmp.zip

!ENTRY org.eclipse.mat.ui 2 0 2008-12-15 15:03:33.068
!MESSAGE Corrupt data reading runtimes from processes at null : No
runtimes due to early startup error: The character reference must end
with the ';' delimiter.

is significant. This means the xml file inside the
UDAT_ConceptFinder_20081215.220.dmp.zip is corrupt. You might be able to
spot a character reference without the ;. I don't know why JExtract hasn't
built a proper xml file.

As the XML seems to be corrupt the DTFJ parser fails, and so the DTFJ
adapter cannot read the dump.

You should be able to use either Java 5 or Java 6 to run MAT - it doesn't
have to match the VM that generated the dump and ran the Jextract. My
thought is that perhaps the XML parsers in the VMs running MAT were
different, and only one spotted the character reference problem.

You could unpack the zip, find the corrupt character reference in the XML,
fix it, then open the unzipped dump (which will also find the associated
XML).
