If the dataset is empty, how can I say "No results were returned" on the report instead of having the "table" results that would be normally shown?

Brian,

Use the visibility expression on the rows of the table. Take a look at
the attached example. Select the table, then each row and check the
visibility expression. There is a parameter to make the result set
return no data to test with.
