Hi,

I'm sure this is probably a completely newb question, but I've been trying to get this to work for 2 hours and feel like I've tried everything...

Basically, I'm installing TPTP, then trying to profile my application, but as soon as I try to do so I get this message:

"The Agent Controller running on localhost:10002 is obsolete and is unable to profile Java 1.5+ agents.

Reason:

This suggests the presence of a previous installation which has been configured to startup automatically as a background process (e.g. as a Windows service). You will need to locate and shutdown or uninstall the older Agent Controller to allow the integrated Agent Controller to start."

So, obviously I'm running this on Windows. I do not have an Agent Controller Windows service. I only have one copy of ACServer on my machine. When I check the task manager, the ACServer that's running is the one in the Eclipse plugin folder. When I check the version of that ACServer, it's 4.7.2, which is the latest one as far as I know.

So how do I fix this? I'm at my wits' end here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Edit: On a hunch, I just tried to disable my firewall. Now it works!

Hi Catherine,

could you provide some more info about your environment?
Which version of Java are you using, which windows?
32bit/64bit is possibly important as well.

I installed the TPTP all-in-one package for Windows from
http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/home/downloads/?ver=4.7.2

Profiling a very simple java application on Windows 7 pro / 64
works ok with Sun^H^H^HOracle Java 1.6.0_24 32bit.

The corresponding 64bit JDK does not work with the all-in-one package
for windows, since that needs a 32bit java.

I use right click "Profile As"-"Java Application" and have to select
the only data collector available "Java Profileing - JRE 1.5 or newer".

If I find the time, I will do some more experiments with 64 vs 32 bit TPTP.

Best regards,

Heiner
