I've added the generateSourceBundle=false to the plug-in's build.properties file as directed here:
http://help.eclipse.org/galileo/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse .pde.doc.user/tasks/pde_individual_source.htm

but when I export the product with the product export wizard, a source bundle gets created anyways. What's the trick to get the export to obey this flag?
