Installing Hyades Runtime 3.2.0 trashes Eclipse [message #5754] Mon, 14 February 2005 14:25 Go to next message

Hi,

I noticed some strange side effect after installing Hyades 3.2.0
(hyades.runtime_3.2.0_20041221_1637)

After unzipping the package into my Eclipse installation the 'Product
Configuration' (Help->Software Updates->Manages Configuration)

is empty. This means that I no longer can configure my Eclipse instance.

Is there any way of fixing this?

BR

Lars

I've noticed that after unzipping the hyades distribution, file plugin.xml
in folder
\plugins\org.apache.jakarta_log4j_logging_1.2.8
has a non printable character at its first position; after removing that
character eclipse's update mechanism is able to parse that file correctly
(see error log from eclipse Help > About Eclipse Platform > Configuration
Details > View Error Log.

Good luck, man, struggling with open source ...

plugin.xml's first line:

Jan and Lars,
The Byte Order Mark (BOM) problem with the plugin.xml in the
\plugins\org.apache.jakarta_log4j_logging_1.2.8 plugin has since been fixed
under defect https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=82305.

Paul,

thanks for making this point clear; however, Lars, me and probably a few
others were having that hard time trying to install a release candidate from
December (still on the download page).

Hi Lars,
This fix does not appear until Hyades 3.3 (i1). The Hyades 3.2 does not
contain the fix. I will check to see if we can get this defect included in
3.2, assuming we have another cut of the release.

The workaround would be to create another plugin.xml using the PDE and
copy the content of the \plugins\org.apache.jakarta_log4j_logging_1.2.8
plugin.xml file.
