Why does nexus take so much space in the workspace? [message #548229]

Why does nexus take so much space in the workspace?

When I check the size of my workspace I find that nexus (in workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.maven.ide.eclipse\nexus) takes up alot of space. About 400Mb, this is more that twice the size of eclipse with all addons excluding nexus.

Why does it take up so much space and is there anything I can do to stop it?
