How can　I compile and run the GMF files? [message #504987]

I am now developing a visual editor using GMF . But I am a little confused that how I can compile the file? Shall I directly compile file to machine code or to the java code ? And how can I check the validation of the file , I mean if the connections parameters between two classes are correct or not . Is there anybody who did implement the similar functions before? Thanks !!
