Sorry, the branch I selecte was "master" not "main".

No, the checkout was not behind a firewall / proxy. I was directly connected to the internet. But my internet connection was extremely slow as I recognized as I opened the browser.
Does this answer you question / comment?
Eclipse was frozen so I'm not sure what was causing the I/O.
