(solved) How to change tomcat preferences? [message #499423] Sun, 22 November 2009 06:29 Go to next message

When I try to add a new tomcat server, eclipse says this:

Could not load the Tomcat server configuration at /usr/share/tomcat5.5/conf. The configuration may be corrupt or incomplete.

That's of course true, because /usr/share/tomcat5.5 doesn't exist -- my tomcat is installed in /usr/share/tomcat/ instead. I have changed the path in Window-->Preferences-->Tomcat, and hit apply at least a dozen times, restarted Eclipse a dozen times, and the Window-->Preferences-->Tomcat keeps the settings and all, but for some reason I keep getting the same error message when I try to create a new server.

Where do I go to change the settings, when the settings in Window-->Preferences-->Tomcat don't have any effect? Or am I forced to move my tomcat installation to /usr/share/tomcat5.5, just because it's impossible for eclipse to look elsewhere?

TIA,
Kaisa

Nevermind, I finally figured it out:
I had to go to Window-->Preferences-->Server-->Installed Server Runtime Environments and change the path there, too.

Kaisa,

I don't recognize your instructions, in particular
Window->Preferences->Tomcat, which is not an option for Europa or
Galileo (I'm using STS).

My instructions would be to set up (and the location doesn't matter)
Tomcat by going to Window->Preferences->Server->Runtime Environment and
then adding my newly installed Tomcat server to the list of those
already there (or as the first if there none).

Under Europa, this was Window->Preferences->Server->Installed Runtimes.

Hope this helps,

Russ

Hi,

you can try this description for setting up tomcat with Eclipse:
