Flat files in DTP? [message #45955] Mon, 30 June 2008 17:47 Go to next message

Just within the DTP environment, I was trying to connect to a flat file
(CSV, txt) to eventually import it to a MYSQL database. The wizard
specified the folder, but never a file.. yet it said a ping succeeded... I
have what appears to be a connection but no expansion below for a file or
better yet file contents. In looking though the newsgroups and
documentation I think I'm at a non-existing path? or is there something I
can do from here? I am in a project that already has a good connection
that shows my MYSQL database...

Tom,

The ODA flat file data source type defines a folder as its data source, and
a flat file as its data set. The wizard you are referring to is for
defining a data source only. With that said, I'm afraid the Flat File data
source does not support defining a data set in the DSE. It supports data
retrieval from a data set (i.e. a flat file) by an ODA-compliant consumer
application, such as BIRT. I'm not aware of an ODA consumer application
that retrieves data from an ODA data source for import to a DBMS. This
feature would be a nice contribution, if you so incline :-)

Thanks for the reply, I'm just a real newbie so just trying to figure a
lot of the stuff out, not yet ready to try making code additions!
