Hi all,

I am part of a research group on SOA. I am particularly interested in
the concept and development of a BPEL Unit Testing Framework, i.e. a
framework similar to JUnit, with tool support within Eclipse to
white-box-test BPEL processes by simulating a client and simultaneously
replacing partner processes with test mocks.

The framework should/will probably include:
* tool support from writing the tests to automatic, repeatable runs
* framework support for writing tests
* framework/tool support for creating the mock partner web services
* execution of the tests (including mock deployment etc)
* test coverage analysis

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you know of similar
approaches? Do you plan to include something this in the BPEL designer?
What features would you like to see in a test framework like this?

I will probably be working on this during the summer/autumn, starting in
April. Do you think an integration into the BPEL designer is feasible at
all/in the (then) current state of the designer?

Looks like there are things going on already, but I have no further

Would your framework be opensource ?

Hello Philipp,

Thanks for your answer! I knew of the second one (the IBM paper), which
is very interesting but focuses mainly on the theoretical side
(BPEL-only; and no downloads).

I didn't know the Oracle document - the feature list looks indeed pretty
close to what I had in mind. I don't seem to be able to find the
proposed features in the new JDeveloper version, though - I will
investigate :)

There are some other tools around, too, but mainly for WS (blackbox)
testing.

Yes (probably EPL or similar). I'm thinking about interfacing with the
BPEL designer.
